This is what I would call the "before" picture, which I have not as of yet done when it comes to documenting my spellwork; usually I just take a picture after everything's already been taken care of, so I decided that this time I wanted to photograph what my spell candles look like before I do that. Here you can see the candle that I'm going to use, my Witches Brew oil (which I bought on 13 Moons but is currently out of stock :( ), sea salt for Earth, lavender for Air, cloves for Fire, and a dried red rose for Water. I was going to use the silver Sharpie to outline the carvings I planned on making in the candle, but it didn't pan out the way I hoped it would. In other words, it didn't do anything. Boo.
And here is the finished product! I carved the name of each element and its corresponding triangle symbol on four sides of the candle, and carved the word "Spirit" and a pentacle across the bottom of the candle so that the words wrapped around it. After that, I anointed the candle with the Witches Brew oil, and then I sprinkled each element's corresponding herb onto the appropriate carving (sea salt for Earth, lavender for Air, etc.). I used Wendy Rule's song "Elemental Chant" to raise energy, and then I recited a prayer to the elements for balance featured in Dorothy Morrison's book Everyday Magic: Spells and Rituals for Modern Living before lighting the candle.
I think this is a brilliant idea, maybe I should try something similar, maybe it'll balance me out. ;) The carvings on the candle and the representations with sea salt, lavender, etc are a nice tough as well.
ReplyDeleteThe amulet is beautiful and you gotta love Wendy Rule. :) Snake huh? I've got Wolf, Tiger (Tigress?), and Crow keeping an eye out for me. I've known a few Snake-aligned people, they're good folks.
Thank you! :D It's definitely done wonders in terms of balancing me out, so I highly recommend doing something along these lines if you're looking for that kind of a result. Snake is actually a recent development...it all started with this dream that I had a few weeks ago where I was attacked by an eastern diamondback and survived. When I talked to Thea about it, she informed me that that's a classic totem animal thing. xD
ReplyDeleteI have to LOL at how Snake is just all "nudge-poke-nudge" until you do what you need to do. XD
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the silver Sharpie didn't work. :/ That was a good idea. I know 13 Moons had some silver powder that I want to get the next time I place an order. That might work for rolling a candle in once you've carved it and anointed it, so the silver just sticks in the carved grooves.
That pendant is SO nice! I can't wait to see it in person. And question: What does the Witches Brew oil smell like?
haha Snake really does just poke at ya poke at ya until you listen. Ooh, I didn't know that they had silver powder! Thank you for letting me know about that! I think I know where part of my next paycheck is going. xD I'm glad that you like the pendant! :D And Witches Brew oil smells really heavily of patchouli, but I was never able to find out what else is in it because that's definitely not the only ingredient, at least if we're going by my nose. XD
ReplyDeleteI've got a pretty strong sense of smell, and smells affect me a lot, so I tend to use oils a lot in my magic but they have to smell good (or at least okay) to me. If I don't like the way an oil smells, it doesn't matter how good it is at its intended purpose, ya know? :P
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand that. haha There really aren't many oils whose scents I don't like...or at least that I don't like enough that I won't use them. xD
